On the occasion of their official visit to Vietnam, Japanese Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kawashima Kiko visited Hoi An city (Quang Nam province) on September 23.
The reception was conducted at Thu Bon Ballroom of Hotel Royal Hoi An – MGallery.
They were received by Secretary of the Quang Nam provincial Party Committee Phan Viet Cuong and his wife, Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam People’s Committee Ho Quang Buu, leaders of the provincial departments, agencies and Hoi An city.

At the reception, Secretary Cuong expressed his delight and honor to receive Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko.
He said Hoi An ancient town is a living testament to the good traditional relationship between the two countries of Vietnam and Japan, starting from the wedding between Vietnamese Princess Ngoc Hoa and Japanese businessman Araki Sotaro more than 400 years ago.
The delegation is welcomed by Hoi An city’s students.
Crown Prince Akishino thanked Quang Nam leaders for the respectful and warm welcome. He expressed his joy at visiting Vietnam again on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Vietnam – Japan diplomatic relations.
It is the third time Crown Prince Akishino has visited Vietnam and his first time to Hoi An ancient town.
Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko visit the model of a Red-seal ship that Japan’s prefecture Nagasaki offered Hoi An city in 2017 to demonstrate the history of trade exchange from Japanese traders through Hoi An trading port in the 16th – 17th centuries.
Until now, Quang Nam has established friendly and cooperative relations with two Japanese localities, including Nagasaki prefecture (2017) and Kinokawa city of Wakayama prefecture (2021).
Hoi An city also maintains and develops cooperation and friendly exchanges with Japanese cities such as Nagasaki, Oda and Sakai.
